Natural durability of wood and wood-based material and efficiency of protection systems

Last update: 8 March 2024

Tests and expert appraisals in all fields relating to the durability and protection of wood and wood-based materials, anti-termite protection systems (barriers), and associated aging.

Our wood preservation laboratory carries out tests to assess the durability of wood and wood-based materials, as well as the effectivenes of wood preservatives and various protection methods (heat treatment, chemical modification, etc.). These tests can include associated aging processes (leaching, evaporation, natural aging). Our tests also extend to the effectiveness of products intended for use as anti-termite barriers and their associated ageing, in the laboratory or on natural sites.

Test according to standard EN 73 (2020)

Durability of wood and wood-based products - Accelerated ageing of treated wood prior to biological testing - Evaporative ageing procedure

Test according to standard EN 84 (2020)

Durability of wood and wood-based products - Accelerated ageing of treated wood prior to biological testing - Leaching procedure

Test according to standard EN 113-1 (2020)

Durability of wood and wood-based products - Test method against wood destroying basidiomycetes - Part 1: Assessment of biocidal efficacy of wood preservatives

Test according to standard EN 113-2 (2020)

Durability of wood and wood-based products - Test method against wood destroying basidiomycetes - Part 2: Assessment of inherent or enhanced durability

Test according to standard EN 113-3 (2023)

Durability of wood and wood-based products - Test method against wood destroying basidiomycetes - Part 3: Assessment of durability of wood-based panels

Test according to standard EN 117 (2013)

Wood preservatives - Determination of toxic values against Reticulitermes species (European termites) (Laboratory method)

Test according to standard EN 118 (2014)

Wood preservatives - Determination of preventive action against Reticulitermes species (European termites) (Laboratory method)

Test according to standard XP X 41-542 (1995)

Wood preservatives - Anti-termite treatment product for floors, walls, foundations and masonry work - Accelerated ageing test of treated materials prior to biological testing - Percolation test

Test according to standard XP X 41-550 (2009)

Termites - Determination of the effectiveness against termites of products or material used as barrrier designed for ground and/or wall - Laboratory method

Other tests

We also carry out other tests on the durability and efficacy of protective products and methods, using adapted equipment and various laboratory procedures. Specific tests can also be carried out, on request, in humid tropical environments. These mainly concern wood protection against wood-destroying fungi and insects and marine borers.
