The BioWooEB research unit conducts research on the valorization of plant biomass with the aim of implementing concrete solutions for the production of bio-sourced products and bio-energy in developing countries by integrating the entire chain "from resource to impact".

The scientific activities and expertise of the unit are based on three main themes implemented for each of the purposes of the unit, grouped in two teams "Materials and molecules of the plant" and "Bioenergy".

In these three themes, the activities carried out are :

  • The "Characterization of resources and products" describes the physical, chemical, biological, rheological and mechanical properties of biomass and products resulting from its transformation.
  • The "Transformation of biomass" into bio-based products and energy includes chemical/microbiological, mechanical and thermochemical transformations of biomass, as well as mechanical (grinding, densification, mixing) and thermal (drying, torrefaction) preconditioning.
  • The "Development of sustainable biomass transformation and valorization chains", from the mobilization of the resource to the final product, meets the needs, which include the choice and dimensioning of processes adapted to the local context, academic and professional training, knowledge transfer as well as the evaluation of environmental performance, which will contribute to the establishment of structured chains.
